Our History
In 1927, Peter Bogdon and Karl Gross began a tradition of quality and craftsmanship that is still evident today. Today, BG Furniture continues to take pride in handcrafting heirloom quality solid hardwood furniture, just as they did over 80 years ago. Now, under the leadership of owner Adam Hofmann, the company upholds its commitment to maintain environmentally sustainable practices and to ensure the sole use of 100% North American hardwoods. Past and present, BG Furniture is a name synonymous with character, distinction, and Canadian heritage.
Our People
Looking at the faces of the crafts people at BG Furniture is like peering into the past and for good reason. Many of the people employed at the Walkerton, Ontario facility have mothers, fathers and grandparents who also converted desires and concepts into award winning BG heirloom furniture. Ask a BG craftsman about the passion for the fine art of furniture making and many will tell you stories dating back 40 years. In the rough warmth of their handshake you will feel the pride and skill of an artist who believes in crafting quality and detail into every piece to produce some of the finest solid hardwood furniture in Canada.
The Environment
Canadians are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of maintaining an eco-friendly environment and BG Furniture continues to develop many green initiatives. One of the company’s sustainable practices includes the use of Ambrosia Maple, which regenerates faster than many other hardwoods. Since no two trees are alike, every BG Furniture product is unique with its own natural colour and grain.
Our Craftsmanship
The creation of our furniture begins with the hand selection of the finest hardwood available. Our superb crafts people take extra time to carefully select specific boards appropriate for each component. BG furniture is very different from the mass produced furniture commonly found at retailers. It is quality without compromise. Our mortise-and-tenon and English dovetail joinery methods ensure durable furniture that can be handed down from generation-to-generation. Dust proof panels are placed between every drawer in all of our cases. This not only increases the strength of every piece, but it also serves to keep the drawer contents cleaner. Our labour intensive highly durable multi-step finish provides lasting beauty. BG Furniture provides an exquisite range of traditional and contemporary collections for the bedroom, living room, dining room and home office. In recent years, BG Furniture has won several ‘Trillium’ and ‘Canadian Home Furnishings’ awards for innovative and refined designs. Each customized piece of furniture is thoroughly inspected before it leaves our doors to enter yours.
